St. Anthony,Idaho has celebrated Pioneer Days forever! It is in honor of the Pioneers coming into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847. A few years ago it was decided to celebrate on the closest Saturday to the 24th. (It isn't a state holiday in Idaho)
In the last few years the parade has gone directly in front of Grandma Dalley's(my Mom's) house. So--a mini reunion happens every year! The yard is full of Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.
The 24th celebration(whatever day it is on) is a calling card of sorts. So many people come home to St. Anthony for the celebration. There are reunions, car shows, rodeos, fireworks and family. It is one of those traditions that I am hoping I get to continue for many, many years.

The military with the flag always makes me emotional.
The LDS church congregations each enter a float for the celebration. These floats are amazing-for such a little town! These floats rival(or win) any float in the Salt Lake parade!!
It was a little bitter sweet this year. As I was walking around visiting with family I was very aware of the loss of Uncle Garth and Uncle Laren. I watched with tears in my eyes as Aunt Ann and Aunt Verla sat together, alone. I kept expecting to hear Uncle Garth yell "throw more candy!"
That feeling of loss never really goes away. I watched my Mom go from person to person visiting. She has been dealing with Dad's loss for 23 years. It isn't as raw but it is still very real.
